Art by Taiwo Apampa

Visual Art

Taiwo Apampa is a contemporary visual artist who infuses jewelry and texture into her acrylic paintings. Her work is deeply inspired by her African heritage and the strength, beauty, and resilience of African women. Born in Nigeria and raised by a strong matriarch, Taiwo creates art that celebrates elegance amid chaos, aiming to share that spirit with the world.

Artist Statement
The phases of my life have shaped my evolution, but one thing has remained constant: passion—for art, for women, and for showcasing them as the powerful, radiant heroes of their stories.

With the birth of my daughters, especially the first two being girls, I felt a deep need to root them in pride and dignity. In a world that often tries to shrink them, I use my art to affirm their identity, worth, and beauty.

I hope my art holds space, creates space, and validates not just my girls, but all Black girls and women. I hope it reflects my evolution—power, beauty, strength, grit, and versatility.
