Azadeh Mehryar

Ceramics

Azadeh is a ceramic artist and educator whose work combines wheel throwing and hand building with influences from historical Persian art and architecture to explore themes of cultural hybridity and diasporic narratives. Through form and the process of making, she creates pieces that bridge cultures, inviting dialogue around identity, memory and belonging.Originally a web developer, she shifted to ceramics in 2018 and later earned her BFA from Emily Carr University, receiving the Governor General’s Silver Medal for academic excellence and multiple scholarships and awards, including an honorable mention for the Landon Mackenzie Graduation Award in Visual Arts and the Carole Badgley Emerging Artist Award. She has completed residencies at the Shadbolt Centre, Medalta and PoMoArts, and exhibited her work across Metro Vancouver. Her practice continues to evolve through experimentation and research, drawing inspiration from architecture, cultural and social symbolism, and personal narrative.
