Karen Smith is a Winnipeg fused glass artist and painter. Artwork is created by layering and melting together various shapes and colors of glass, fired as high as 1650° F in a fusing kiln.The translucency of glass is explored by layering transparent colours over one another to achieve a more complicated vibrancy. Incorporating opaque glass allows the viewer to appreciate the level of depth in the art. Karen Smith designs and makes a range of tactile decorative fused glass which is functional, contemporary and complements most interiors. Every piece offers something different – drawing the eye and enhancing a room.Often alcohol ink painting is included as a backdrop. Small pieces are made into sterling silver jewelry.
