Betty Avery
Betty Avery is a Kitchener-based artist whose practice explores the expressive possibilities of acrylic paint through unconventional techniques. Rather than beginning with a fixed plan, her paintings emerge intuitively, guided by emotion, instinct, and the rhythm of her changing mental and physical capacities.Living with fibromyalgia, Betty navigates chronic pain, nervous system dysfunction, fatigue, and the emotional challenges that accompany an unpredictable illness. Her creative process is both an act of resilience and a form of release—a space where frustration, vulnerability, and perseverance are transformed into deeply personal works of art. Each painting reflects not only experimentation with material, but also a journey of adaptation, healing, and self-expression.
