Cate Brown

Mixed Media

My name is Cate Brown, and I am a local abstract acrylic artist of female nudes. After spending the first part of my career crafting compelling narratives with the written word as a journalist, I discovered abstract painting as an outlet for coping with the isolation of COVID-19 lockdowns. I joined the Merrickville Arts Guild and exhibited my acrylic on canvas “Empowered Women” series at the Merrickville Festival of the Arts, through the Wall Candy Sweetly Affordable Art Fair at Wesley Clover Park, at NOIR, and as a vendor at 613 flea.Particularly disturbed by the death of Mahsa Amini at the hands of the Iranian morality police in Tehran on September 16, 2022, I aim for my work to raise awareness about women’s rights globally. Utilizing every shade of neutral I can find, I aspire to represent all colours, races, nationalities, and ethnicities in every painting. I want all women to see themselves in my work and to feel seen in the artistic community.
