Emma Backer
Emma's practice focuses on a personal exploration of the human body and psyche. Each work can be translated as an experiment to uncover the complexities of memory and experience: how and where the body holds them, recalls them, and releases them. Her work is primarily intuitive, and every colour choice, line, shape and form made comes from a deep connection to self, personal history, and an understanding of the myriad psychological narratives that guide our decision-making every day. In search of new ways to express and recall memories through mark-making, movement, photography and sculpture, Emma's goal as an artist is to inspire the viewer to do the same.
