S.R. Spence - The HeadWater Collective
Sean (S.R. Spence) grew up in Nelson BC but moved to Calgary in 2001 to pursue a career in policing. After being diagnosed with complex PTSD, Anxiety and Depression, he was forced to leave policing in 2021. Sean turned to his love of photography as a creative outlet for healing, helping him see the world in a different way. He creates composite, fine art photos that are meant to evoke emotion, provocative thought and are meant to elicit conversation about topics that are sometimes challenging or seen as taboo. Having a goal of finding his work framed and hanging in a gallery, he learned how to build custom frames using only reclaimed wood. In mounting his work, he strives for museum quality, choosing archival components and the highest quality papers or aluminum. The frames that he creates have been praised for their quality and uniqueness and are meant to be art in themselves, without taking away from what they are displaying.
