Julia Novakovic

Print Making

Novakovic’s interdisciplinary practice investigates the intersection of printmaking and dance, exploring the physical rigor, emotional vulnerability, and discipline shared by both art forms. With 17 years of experience as a competitive dancer and 5 years as a printmaker, she draws on her lived experience to examine the pursuit of precision, control, and perfection in creative expression.

Using digital long exposure photography as a starting point, Novakovic transforms ephemeral movement into permanent visual impressions through photopolymer intaglio printing. This meticulous and technically demanding process mirrors the careful choreography of dance, requiring patience, focus, and an acute sensitivity to detail. Her work explores the delicate balance between pleasure and pain that artists often navigate, revealing the emotional weight and resilience embedded in performance-based practices.
