Julien Poublanc
I grew up in Toulouse, France, and moved to Toronto about twenty years ago. Early on, I pursued filmmaking and established a small Super 8 film processing lab. Over time, however, painting emerged as a more intimate and enduring practice, one that aligns more closely with my personal sensibilities.
Since settling in Toronto, I have developed a sustained practice in abstract painting and collage, and have participated in diverse exhibitions across multiple galleries.
My paintings are improvisational explorations guided by an underlying structure. Rather than relying on a fixed formula, I approach each work as an opportunity to experiment, allowing the painting to evolve while maintaining internal coherence.
Through strong color, layered textures, and gestural lines, I aim to evoke playful, spontaneous emotional responses.
