Kira Chankasingh

Visual Art

Kira Chankasingh’s imagery serves as a vessel of remembrance and forgetfulness. By revisiting family photos, she creates a vortex of ancestral experience. Combining the past while painting in the present, she creates her own relationship to the subject, thus creating a new story to reflect on the future. Within her multiplicities of identity, Kira explores how the mystery of different environments impact culture and people, especially during times of isolation. Although she considers herself a multidisciplinary artist, Kira‘s paintings reveal her passion for the human figure.Queer Alberta Artist, Kira Chankasingh is the daughter of immigrant parents from Trinidad and Tobago. A student at Alberta University of the Arts and a graduate from Emily Carr University, she was born in Yellowknife. Her early life was impacted by the natural world travelling with parents to visit family in Edmonton and Trinidad.
