I live and work in Toronto, and immigrated here from China in my 20s. The following year after I landed, I was admitted in the Find Arts program at Bishop’s University (QC), studied closely under Dr. Jim Benson, and Dr. Darren Millington.
The introduction to Expressionism was the defining moment in the development of my Visual Art practice. I remember looking at The Scream , printmaking by Munch, and thinking this is how painting should be - visually bold, and emotionally charged.
After I moved to Toronto, I was introduced to local landscape painter Jack Zhou. He is the only Chinese painter I know that is making a living by painting. I was impressed. He became my mentor, and I regard him as my role model.
