Mabo
My name is Mason Bohonos, and I create art under the name Mabo. I’m a digital collage artist based in Calgary, Alberta. My journey into collage began with the influence of my older brother, Roan, who introduced me to both traditional and digital techniques. His mentorship shaped my style, blending the tactile, handmade qualities of analog collage with the precision and versatility of digital tools.
My work focuses on balanced colour schemes, compelling subject matter, and open-ended themes that invite interpretation. Colour, subject, and composition are key in my process, and I often let the meaning of a piece unfold organically.
Themes that inspire my work include personal experiences, the duality of life, the human condition, love, relationships, dreams, and the metaphysical.
