Vu Song Vu

Visual Art

Vu Song Vu is a Vietnamese artist currently based in Toronto. Working primarily with acrylic, watercolour, coloured pencil, Chinese ink, and calligraphy brush on canvas and paper, Vu’s art explores the complexities of human emotion with an underlying tone of sarcastic wit and quiet cynicism. At the heart of his work is the figure of a baby, inspired by Vietnamese folk art, whose ambiguous expression invites interpretation and captures the emotional undercurrents that often go unspoken. Vu’s pieces aim to provoke reflection, encouraging viewers to question their faith, emotions, and embrace the uncertainty of life. Through this fusion of humour and introspection, his work creates space for confronting the messy, ever-shifting nature of human existence.
